The Children’s Services is the go to place for the youngest of library users! We do programming for babies, preschoolers, school aged children, and the Tweens (4th-5th grade).
PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS
Family Lapsit
This class introduces your child to the wonderful world of books. With your active participation & guidance we will explore a different theme each week through books, songs, fingerplays, and activities to lay a foundation for a lifetime love of books for your child.
For babies 3 – 23 months

Terrific Tots
This class is a transitional opportunity for your 2-3 year old and a caregiver to move from Family Lapsit classes to our Preschool Storytime. Each week the child, along with a caregiver, will participate in songs and fingerplays, listen to stories, and create crafts. Through all of these activities and your involvement, we will build a love for reading for your child.
For 2 – 3 year olds

Toddler Play Days
Not old enough for preschool fun? Then this is the class for you! Join us for toddler time. Each month we will enjoying some unstructured play time.
For 18 months – 3 year olds

Preschool Storytime
This class is for 3-5 year olds who have not yet stated Kindergarten and are ready to attend class by themselves. Each week we will explore a different theme through books, songs, and crafts to instill a love of books for your child.
For 3 – 5 year olds not yet in Kindergarten
Monday’s 6-6:45 PM, Wednesday’s 10-10:45 AM, Thursday’s 11:15-12:00 PM, Friday’s 10-10:45 AM
Pre-K Play Day
Bring your preschooler for an hour of free play in our meeting room. Stations will be set up for your child to freely choose what they want to do. Possible stations include art, puppets, music, grocery store, blocks, and dinosaurs.

SCHOOL AGE PROGRAMS
Eager Readers
This weekly class will continue to develop your child’s love for reading though art, cooking, science activities, and of course, books!
For K – 5th grade
Homeschool Edition – Monday’s 1-2 PM
School Edition – Monday’s 4-5 PM
Early Dismissal Fun Day!
Kindergartener-5th graders can bring their own lunch and join us for an afternoon of fun games, crafts, and activities. Lunch and group games will run from 11:45 am until 1:00 pm, followed by crafts & activities from 1:00-2:00 pm.

Fit 4 Life
Join us as we learn how to stay Fit 4 Life! The class which is provided in conjunction with Riverside Medical Center will include exercise, discussion about healthy eating habits and other ways to keep our bodies fit, and a healthy snack.

Tail Waggin’ Tutors
Tail Waggin’ Tutors is back. If you have a child who would like to practice reading to a therapy dog to help build his/her confidence, contact Youth Services at 815-634-4552.

Tween Monthly Activity
Both boys and girls in 4th and 5th grade can join us for a time to explore a new subject and create something that goes along with the theme.

Wonder Kids
Wonder Kids is a class for K-3rd grade where some of your child’s wonders can be explored through different activities and books. A new theme is explored each month. This event will be held in the meeting room.

Painting Classes
Mini Artist
3 year olds thru 2nd graders can join us for a step by step canvas painting focusing on a different theme each month. We encourage a caregiver to attend to assist in the project. CCPLD cardholders only.
For PreK (3 years old) – 2nd grade

Jr. Artist
3rd thru 5th graders can join us for an instructional painting class. Theme is Unicorn. Registration is required. Child needs to be a CCPLD patron.

Teen Programs and Classes
Tail Waggin’ Tutors

Adults and Teens 9th thru 12th grade can join us for an evening movie night. No registration required.

6th thru 12th graders can join us for an instructional painting class. The theme is Birds. Teen needs to be a CCPLD library cardholder.

Teen Game Night
6th thru 12th graders can play video games on the Switch consoles with their friends. Snacks will be provided. Registration is required and must be a CCPLD cardholder.

Teen Pizza and a Movie
6th thru 12th graders can join us in Annex A for the movie and pizza on Early Dismissal Day. Please register so we order enough pizza.

Teen Take and Makes
Teens can register to pick up a take and make kit in the Teen Zone. Pick up your kit, take it home, and use the instructions included to make it. Must be a CCPLD cardholder.
